After dark, it is Soho: low light, cocktail bars, jazz behind closed doors. London Artisanal Incense is that second city, a sexy smoke that dims the lights and softens the edges of the room. The Olfactory Signature West African Nutmeg, Monodora myristica, and Dry Gin (The Spark): The opening allure. Ehuru, West African nutmeg, radiates a peppery, exotic warmth against the crisp, icy bite of dry gin and juniper. Cedar Leaves, Cedrus spp., Cypress, Rose Petals, Rosa spp., and Yerba Santa, Eriodictyon californicum (The Tension): Fresh-cut cedar leaves and dark cypress give an architectural green edge, softened by the velvet of rose petals and the lift of yerba santa, the holy herb. White Copal, Balthasar, and Vanilla, Vanilla planifolia (The Seduction): The lingering finish. White copal and traditional balthasar blend melt into the warm, skin-like sweetness of vanilla, an amber-sweet foundation that stays in the room long after the ember fades. The Experience Each stick is dipped by hand in small batches and made to burn slow and even, over 60 minutes.
